Sony announces Dash Internet application viewer

Sony's dash internet application viewer runs the Linux-based Chumby OS. At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Sony has introduced its new dash "personal application viewer" featuring built in Wi-Fi, stereo speakers, a USB port and a 7-inch touch screen. According to Engadget, the Dash runs the Chumby OS, an open source Linux-based operating system.

Brennan Mullin, Sony Electronics’ senior vice president of the personal imaging and audio business said, “With dash, we’re empowering consumers with a fun, interactive way to stay connected with their news, entertainment, interests and ultimately, their lives.” Sony says that, in addition to access to audio and video content from Sony's Bravia Internet video platform which features YouTube, Pandora Internet radio and others, the personal Internet viewer will have access to more than 1,000 free applications from Chumby Industries.

The dash is expected to be available in April and sell for $199 in the US. UK pricing and availability, however, have yet to be announced.
