Slackware 13.1 gets a second release candidate

Slackware Logo The first point update for Slackware Linux 13 is almost ready. The Slackware developers have issued a second release candidate (RC2) for version 13.1 of their Linux distribution.

The latest release candidate features the 2.6.33.4 Linux kernel and version 4.4.3 of the KDE desktop environment. The lightweight Xfce 4.6.1 desktop has also received some minor updates. Other changes and package updates include Pidgin 2.7.0, which addresses a emoticon vulnerability, and several bug fixes and performance improvements.

More details about the second release candidate can be found in the preliminary change log. Slackware Linux 13.1 RC2 is available from the project's FTP server as "Current" tree DVD images built on the 18th of May. The latest stable release is Slackware 13.0 from the end of August, 2009.
