SkySQL has announced a beta release of Cloud Data Suite, a platform for deploying high availability MariaDB databases to Amazon's EC2, and, Enterprise Data Suite, comprising a carrier grade database, a high availability tool and analytics applications. The Cloud Data Suite is free to use and includes open source components, while the Enterprise Data Suite is designed to be part of the company's commercial service and support subscription model.

The Cloud Data Suite platform includes an open source admin console, developed by SkySQL to control the cluster nodes, offers "limited" monitoring of those nodes and backup and restore of the database. The source code should be available, the company says, in the next few days. It builds and configures MariaDB, MySQL-compatible, databases for deployment onto the Amazon cloud and assists with configuring cross-region replication for high availability and online backup and restore services.

Using the software a user can, says SkySQL, deploy a cluster of MySQL compatible nodes to Amazon's EC2 service with as little as "four simple clicks", or they can use more advanced configuration options to take more control of the deployed systems. The company says that the deployed cluster is both fully functional and secure. Nodes can be configured to go offline during quiet times and come online for peak hours and the integrated high availability tool gives failover from one master to a number of slave nodes, either automatically or triggered from the console. The company claims that the interface is simple enough for administrators with limited DBA experience to manage a cloud-based cluster of databases.

The Enterprise Data Suite works with MySQL, MariaDB and Percona Server databases and is made up of three different options. SkySQL Enterprise Carrier Grade is the cluster database offering, based around MySQL Clustering. SkySQL Enterprise High Availability adds automatic fail-over and node synchronisation to MySQL; this includes Synchronous HA based on Codership's Galera Cluster and Super Scale HA based on Continuent Tungsten.

Finally, SkySQL Enterprise Analytics is based on Calpont's InfiniDB columnar database engine which supports MySQL connectivity but includes the large scale parallel processing capabilities demanded by analytics processes. The components of the suite can be monitored by MONyog monitoring with SkySQL extensions for anomaly detection. Users have the choice of SQLyog and phpMyAdmin for interacting with the various database packages available.
