Skolelinux Logo The Skolelinux developers have released a first alpha for version 6.0.0 of their Linux distribution. Skolelinux is based on Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" and is designed to be used by schools and other educational institutions.

According to the developers, the second test release is primarily focused at thin clients and disk-less workstation set-ups. In addition to KDE, it includes a choice of the GNOME or LXDE desktops and a number of package updates. Like Debian Squeeze, Skolelinux features a new installer, several new tools and a number of performance improvements. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the release can be found in the official release announcement. Skolelinux Linux 6.0.0 Alpha 1 is available to download (FTP Link) from the project's FTP server.
