Sigil EPUB ebook editor 0.6.0 released

Source: Sigil Nine months after the project's last major update, version 0.6.0 of the open source Sigil EPUB ebook editor is now available to download; this new version brings with it many enhancements and new features, such as reports and saved searches. Written in C++ using Qt, Sigil is a cross-platform EPUB editing application that includes full support for version 2 of the EPUB spec. It allows users to edit EPUB files using both WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) and code-based editing, and can import HTML and plain text files.

The new saved searches feature in Sigil 0.6.0 now allows users to create, edit and group custom searches; these searches can be accessed by right clicking in the "Find & Replace" text boxes. This feature is especially useful for those who frequently need to modify similar text across ebooks when editing. Users can also store and access clips with common text or styles, or apply starting/ending tags to text; clips can be accessed by right clicking in the Book View or Code View editors.

Source: Sigil Support for creating an HTML index by marking text or listing phrases to be indexed has been added, and users can now convert a Table Of Contents into an HTML page. New reports provide details about files, images and styles, and Sigil's performance is now said to be significantly better in various areas, such as opening and changing tabs, generating a table of contents, merging files, bulk renaming and replacing text.

Other changes include support for automatically removing unlinked images or unreferenced CSS classes, editing files externally, as well as updates to Sigil's spell check and preferences. The new version also fixes a large number of bugs including all currently known crashing problems; this should, its developers say, make Sigil "completely stable".
