Novell Logo Novell has released the fourth service pack for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Development Kit 10.

In addition to including all of the updates since SP3, the fourth service pack also supports HyperPAV (Hyper Parallel Access Volumes) for hard drives, which increases data throughput, and hardware-accelerated Crypto Devices to take some of the burden off of the server during cryptographic operations. Service Pack 4 is already available for download.

Novell has also extended the timeframe for support: the vendor now offers customers support for five years after the publication of a service pack; up to now, customers had to install the next service pack within two years if they wanted to continue to have support. Furthermore, Novell has extended support from seven to ten years for all major releases of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and has introduced global support of SLES for System Z for the first time.
