Sencha Touch 2 arrives with significant performance improvements
Sencha has released the next version of its HTML5-based development framework for touch screen applications. Sencha Touch 2 brings improved performance, especially for applications targeting Android.
Scrolling, changes in screen orientation and application startup time have all been speeded up significantly, according to the company. This is mostly due to a new layout engine that has been designed especially for this purpose. Other changes include the addition of an API for accessing geolocation information, AJAX support and native packaging for the iOS App Store using the Sencha SDK Tools. A new class system, ported from the Ext JS 4 framework is supposed to simplify the use of JavaScript in Sencha Touch applications.
More information on the changes in Sencha Touch 2 can be found in the release documentation. The framework can be downloaded from the company's web site and is available as a GPLv3 licensed version or under several commercial licence options.
