Version 4.8.2 of the KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC) is now available for download. The second point update to the 4.8.x branch of the open source K Desktop Environment is a maintenance release of the Linux and Unix desktop that includes translation updates as well as bug fixes that improve its overall stability.

Notable changes include the addition of support for encrypting multiple folders at the same time using the KGpg interface for GnuPG, XRender fixes in the KWin window manager, and updates to the Dolphin file manager's view engine. Bugs affecting the Nepomuk semantic framework and the Okular universal document viewer have also been fixed. The update is recommended for users running all earlier versions of KDE.

Details about the update, including a full list of changes and fixes, can be found in the official release announcement, the change log and on the KDE 4.8.2 Info Page. Version 4.8.2 of KDE is available to download as binary packages for various Linux distributions and as source packages for self-compilation.

KDE is licensed under a combination of the LGPLv2, BSD, MIT and X11 licences for core libraries and the GPLv2 or GPLv3 for applications.
