Savannah software forge experiences problems

Savannah, the open source software forge run by the GNU Project, is currently in the process of being restored following major problems after a hard disk failed, causing further RAID failures. According to an e-mail sent out by the administrators, the most recent backup from the 29th of May was incomplete due to "independent backup issues", however more details were not provided. The last full backup available is from the end of April.

The recovery process is currently under way for the site. Users have several options to recover their repositories: They can use the complete backup from the 29th of April or the incomplete backup from the 29th of May. Alternatively, should users have another, more recent backup, they can import it. A backup from the 27th of May has also been found and is currently undergoing integrity testing. The administrators are also attempting to recover the most recent data from the crashed disks, however, the process can take some time. An online monitor is available for users interested in the current status of the site.
