At the Tizen Developer Conference – currently being held in San Francisco – several companies have demonstrated their software on Tizen developer smartphones provided by Samsung. According to the Tizen Talk blog, the specifications for the device include a Cortex A9 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB on board flash memory, two cameras and a 4.65" AMOLED display. The phones are reportedly running Tizen 1.0 which was released at the beginning of the month.

Samsung Vice President Jong-Deok Choi held a keynote at the event and attendees were each given a device. The phone, which was not named during the keynote, is to serve as a development platform for interested parties who want to create applications for Tizen.

Tizen was created by a merger of the two Linux-based mobile operating systems MeeGo and LiMo. Applications for Tizen are developed with a mix of HTML5 and JavaScript. The main corporate supporters of Tizen are Intel and Samsung. The operating system is aimed at mobile phones, tablets, netbooks and also TVs and the automotive industry.
