The Sabayon team has released version 8 of its distribution based on Gentoo Linux. Sabayon 8 includes a choice of GNOME 3.2.2, KDE 4.7.4 or Xfce 4.8 desktop environments. According to the release notes, Sabayon, which is named after an Italian dessert, is "faster, cleaner and more evolved than any other rolling distro out there".

Sabayon 8 includes the 3.2 Linux kernel and a more experimental fusion kernel is available as an option. It also has version 3.4.4 of LibreOffice, Java 7 and the Cinnamon desktop interface which was created as a fork of the GNOME 3 shell by the Linux Mint developers. The developers have also swapped out ffmpeg for libav.

More information about the updated distribution can be found in the official release announcement. Sabayon Linux 8 is available for download for 32- and 64-bit systems from the project's mirrors.
