SCO postpones SCO Forum because of new investor

In a letter sent to its UNIX partner firms, the SCO Group has announced that its in-house conference, the SCO TEC Forum, has been postponed from August to October 2008. The reason for the postponement is that a new investor has offered to help the company out in its Chapter 11 proceedings. Still facing charges pressed by Novell, IBM, and Red Hat concerning UNIX rights and the alleged illegal use of code from UNIX System V in Linux, SCO plans to fight back with "top-class UNIX products" at its in-house affair at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, where keynote addresses will focus mainly on the new UNIX virtualisation solution.

In the letter announcing the postponement of the conference, SCO's president and chief operating officer Jeff Hunsacker says that, by October, the firm will be able to announce a future strategy once it has dealt with the current problems. By then, the new investor's plans can also be presented; at present, they have to be kept confidential for reasons of due diligence. "In the past few months, the plans have been discussed with key customers all over the world, and they are all very pleased about our new focus." The letter says that customers and exhibitors who have already registered for the conference in August should contact the event's manager, but it turns out that she left SCO in May and has since been working at Symantec.
