Node.js logo Ryan Dahl, creator of the Node.js framework, is stepping down from his gatekeeping role and handing that responsibility over to Isaac Schlueter. Node.js is an open source, event-driven, JavaScript-running server side framework which has become popular with developers looking for a resource efficient way to handle the demands of web applications. Dahl announced his decision on the Node.js Google Group saying that it was time to move on, as the major rewrite to base Node on libuv was complete.

Dahl has been working for three years on Node.js and is moving on to work on research projects. Schlueter's initial goals will be to improve the "third party module system experience" with a new web site for module browsing, a new addon build system and the addition of binary installation support to npm which, given that Schlueter was the creator of the npm package manager and registry, makes him ideally qualified for the task. Dahl says he will be advising from the sidelines, but that Schlueter now has final say as to what makes it into Node.js releases.
