RubyMine logo Software vendor JetBrains has released version 3.0 of RubyMine, its development environment for Ruby and Rails developers. The focus in the new release is on support for version 3 of the Ruby on Rails web framework, released in the summer, as well as better support for Ruby 1.9. Other changes include integration of code coverage tool rcov and support for the Mercurial distributed version control system. Git integration has also been revamped, as has language support in the code editor.

Additionally, RubyMine includes traditional IDE functions, such as code completion and checking, and automatic re-factoring. The IDE, which is based on JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA, can also be integrated into other version control systems such as Subversion, Perforce and CVS. The programming interface is designed to be open, to allow development of plug-ins for Java and Ruby.

An individual developer license costs £54, while company and organisation licenses are £115. Open source projects can use the IDE for free and trainers and educational institutions can also use the IDE under a classroom license at no charge.
