Ruby 1.9.2 expected in August
According to a new schedule, the next version of the dynamic Ruby 1.9.2 scripting language will probably be released in mid August. While previous plans were for a final release by last December, the developers wanted to ensure that the new version passed the RubySpec tests. Eventually this lead to the release being postponed. Ruby 1.9.2dev has now passed all the relevant tests.
The next deadline on the way to the official release is the 31st of March, when the specification will be "frozen". No further new functionality will be included in the list of features after this date. The developers then plan to implement the last features and have the new version of the language ready for code freeze status by the 30th of April. Several preview releases and release candidates which focus on the stability of the new Ruby version are scheduled to follow before, all things being well, the final version will be released in mid August. The current release of the dynamic scripting language is 1.9.1. Ruby is released under the Ruby license or GPL.
