Ruby icon The developers of the Ruby programming language have produced a normal bugfix-only release of Ruby 1.8.7 – Ruby 1.8.7-p370 – in what is expected to be the last bugfix update to that Ruby version. Originally released in 2008, Ruby 1.8.7 has since been superseded by Ruby 1.9 (now up to Ruby 1.9.3). As planned, this will be the final bugfix update for 1.8.7; over the next year the developers will only provide security fixes until June 2013, after which all support will end for the release.

The Ruby developers recommend that all users upgrade to Ruby 1.9 which has faster execution, integrated Rubygems and many other enhancements. Recent versions of Ruby, including Ruby 1.9.3-p193, are available from the download page of ruby-lang.org along with instructions on other ways to obtain a recent Ruby version.
