Report: Microsoft wants $15 for each Samsung Android device

MSFT Patent According to a Reuters report, Microsoft are demanding a $15 patent licence royalty for each Android-based smartphone handset Samsung makes. The report cites local media which quoted unnamed industry officials as saying that Samsung would look for a $10 payment in exchange for working more closely with Microsoft's Windows platform. Samsung has not yet commented on the issue.

The news comes after Microsoft announced four Android patent deals in just over a week. The latest patent deal was with manufacturer Wistron, an original design manufacturer which had a $21 billion revenue in 2010. In that instance the deal also included reference to Google's Chrome platform; this report makes no mention of any deal including Chrome, but Samsung is in the process of launching "Chromebooks" which run that platform. Samsung's rival smartphone maker HTC did a deal with Microsoft just over a year ago.
