Android Google is teaming up with Intel and Sony to develop a platform called Google TV to run on set-top boxes, according to a report in the New York Times. The Google TV platform is based on the open source Android operating system which, at its core, runs on the Linux kernel. The platform is designed to bring together broadcast television, web applications and web video and make it "as easy as changing a channel" to move between them.

Another partner is reportedly Logitech, who will be producing a remote control with keyboard for the device. Google has built prototypes of the set-top box; the final device will apparently use a version of the Chrome web browser, ported to Android, rather than Android's WebKit-based browser. None of the partners in the project made any comment to the New York Times when approached, apart from Sony, whose spokesman said they were not familiar with the project.
