Linux Mint logo The Linux Mint development team has announced the availability of a release candidate (RC) for Linux Mint 12 LXDE, code-named "Lisa". Aimed at developers and testers, the release candidate is based on Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" and includes the Linux 3.0 kernel and version 0.5.0 of the lightweight LXDE desktop environment.

New and updated packages include Firefox and Thunderbird 7.0.1, version 2.33 of the Transmission BitTorrent client, VLC Media Player 1.1.12, AbiWord 2.8.6 and version 2.10.0 of the Pidgin IM client. The developers note that the RC release does have some known issues, such as a missing power manager and user management tool, which will be addressed in the final stable version; a full list of these can be found in the release notes.

More details about the release candidate can be found on the New features page. Linux Mint 12 LXDE RC is available to download for 32-bit systems from the project's site. Users testing the release are asked to provide feedback and report any bugs that they find by leaving a comment on the announcement blog post.
