Red Hat Logo Red Hat has announced the availability of Red Hat Enterprise MRG 2.0. In the second generation of the system optimised for Messaging, Realtime, and Grid (MRG), the open source specialist says it has improved performance and scalability; in addition, a number of optimisations for use in clouds have been added to the product, which is particularly popular in the financial sector.

The new version of the product, which is sold via subscription, is compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.1, which Red Hat presented in May. MRG includes a kernel with real-time capabilities that reportedly has the fast reaction times needed for real-time and messaging applications. Optimised drivers for RDMA Infiniband with iWarp 10G hardware should also speed up messaging. Revised management tools are intended to improve system management and the distribution of processes in a grid.

Further information about MRG 2.0, including a full list of changes, can be found in the release notes and in the slide show for the presentation entitled "Red Hat Enterprise MRG Update & Roadmap", which two Red Hat staff members presented at the Red Hat Summit 2011.
