As part of its new JBoss Open Choice strategy, Red Hat has presented a uniform environment for utilising a range of different programming models. The JBoss Enterprise Application Platform software is the open source specialist's answer to the growing demands on the various Java enterprise programming and deployment models. The core of the package is the JBoss Microcontainer application platform architecture, which isolates core enterprise class platform services, such as persistence, caching and clustering, from the currently available containers and frameworks.

By selecting the environment, JBoss Enterprise Middleware users can choose between programming models such as Spring, Seam, Struts, Google Web Toolkit and Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) without any adverse effect on their projects. A range of additional JBoss Application Platform products can also be integrated.

The platform is designed to simplify the development and deployment of applications, offer developers options, provide a single environment for deployment and management and offer businesses the flexibility and cost benefits of open source.
