Red Hat confirms RHEL 6 will not support Itanium
Red Hat's Kerri Catallozzi has confirmed that the next major release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), version 6, will not support Intel's Itanium (IA-64) processor. According to reports, Red Hat will continue to officially support, add new features and support new Itanium hardware in RHEL 5 until March of 2014 in accordance with the published RHEL product life cycle. The company also confirmed that extended support for RHEL 5 for selected OEMs will be available until March of 2017.
Other platforms supported by RHEL 5, including x86, x64, Power PC and System z, however, will be supported in the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 release.
