Euclyptus Logo Red Hat and Eucalyptus Systems have formed a partnership with the aim of integrating Eucalyptus' open source cloud solution into Red Hat products. The developers first aim to enable Eucalyptus, an open source implementation of Amazon's EC2, S3 and EBS web services which can be used to set up private clouds, to be accessed from Red Hat's Deltacloud, a collection of APIs for cloud platform interoperability.

The two companies also want to make it possible to control Eucalyptus via Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization's management functions, allowing near seamless integration of Eucalyptus. The code produced by the collaboration is to be released under an open source license. Eucalyptus CEO Marten Mickos expects the integration to be largely complete by mid 2011, with beta versions expected to be available sooner.
