The ReactOS developers have put out a call for donations to a new fund raising effort that aims at employing "as many core developers as possible" to work full time on the project. The campaign aims to raise €30,000 (approximately £24,000) during the remainder of 2012.

According to the announcement, the recent success of the work done as part of Google's Summer of Code 2011 has shown the project the importance of directly funding developers to work on features for ReactOS. In transitioning as many developers as possibly from working on ReactOS as a hobby, the project hopes to "make ReactOS into a true competitor and alternative for computer users worldwide".

ReactOS is a binary-compatible implementation of the Windows NT architecture that has been written from scratch. The design of the system is based on Windows XP/2003 and the project has been in an alpha state since 1998. The developers hope to reach beta status for the project soon and are saying that the more people they can employ full time for the project, the sooner they can reach that goal.
