Nearly three months after the release of version 0.3.8, the ReactOS developers have announced the release of version 0.3.9 of their Windows compatible React Operating System. ReactOS is a free open source operating system based on the Windows NT architecture (Windows XP/2003) design. It is intended to interoperate with existing Windows applications and drivers.

The 0.3.9 release includes a "much improved" networking stack and the kernel now supports sound via the new kernel streaming services. A new and faster Hyperspace Mapping Interface is included, improving the overall speed of the OS. The minimum memory requirement has been reduced to 32Mb.

ReactOS is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL). The project is still at an alpha stage and therefore is not currently recommended for production use due to the lack of support for many of the Windows drivers. More details about the release can be found in the change log. ReactOS 0.3.9 is available to download and an installation guide is provided.
