Version 3.0.0 of the open source RAW converter RawTherapee has been released. RawTherapee 3 is now available to download for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows and various Linux distributions, as well as Mac OS X 10.6.

Zoom RawTherapee 3 offers a tidy import window...

On the whole, RawTherapee 3 responds faster than its predecessor when generating previews and processing RAW data. The user interface is much tidier and clearer than in the previous version; the standard tools for adjusting image exposure, detail and noise, colour, size and composition, RAW properties and meta data are now arranged into tabs. The new layout is also designed to facilitate the use of a second display.

The program now offers options for overwriting existing files when exporting images. Users can adjust the opacity and colour of a cropped-off area; images can be scaled to fit a document window via a fit button and the exposure slider now offers greater editing range than before.

Zoom ... and new image editing tools

A new HSV-based tool allows users to adjust image hue, saturation and brightness via sliders. The program offers automatic as well as manual defringing options. When calculating where to clip shadows and highlights, the program now uses luminance instead of RGB values. It can ignore colour profiles if required.

Further improvements affect the automatic white balance, highlight correction, preview image quality, keyboard shortcuts and font support in metadata fields.

More information about what's new in version 3.0.0 can be found in the announcement on the project's blog. The source code for RawTherapee is available to download under the terms of the GPLv3 licence.
