RabbitMQ plugs into Grails

VMWare's SpringSource division has announced an early access version of a RabbitMQ Plug-in for the Grails web application framework. The plug-in allows a Grails application developer to send and receive messages over the lightweight implementation of AMQP (Advanced Message Queueing Protocol).

It is early days for the plug-in, currently a version 0.2 and described as "relatively limited" by the developers. Messaging allows applications to communicate in a reliable and scalable way over a network and is useful, for example, to allow front end web services to communicate with a set of back end application servers. It is especially useful for cloud platforms where the physical configuration and connectivity of servers is hidden within the cloud service.

The plug-in brings together the technology of two VMWare open source acquisitions; RabbitMQ, which was bought by VMWare's SpringSource in April this year and the Grails web framework, acquired as part of the SpringSource acquisition a year ago. To make use of the plug-in, developers will need to install a RabbitMQ server and then install the Grails plug-in from the standard Grails repositories.
