Python Software Foundation sponsors hacking sessions

In a posting on the Python-announce mailing list, the Python Software Foundation (PSF) is calling on developers to apply for sponsorship money to finance Python programming sprints. In sprints or Hackfest's, software developers meet others with similar interests for a short time to try and solve particular programming problems. The PSF is planning to sponsor two or three such events per month focussed on efforts to help the entire Python community.

Those interested in holding a Python sprint and would like assistance in covering the costs should submit an application detailing the event date, who the organisers are, the number of attendees expected, what the goal of the sprint will be and an outline budget with the amount of funding requested. The foundation says it will provide up to $250 (approx. £166) per event. More information on applying for funding and on sprints already scheduled can be found on the Python sprints blog.
