The developers of Python, the free scripting language, have announced the release of version 2.6.2. This is the second bug fix release in the Python 2.6 development branch and contains nearly a hundred bug fixes and revisions, all listed in the release notes.

Python 2.6 finally appeared in October 2008, and Andrew M. Kuchling gives detailed current information about it in his notes at python.org, "What's New in Python 2.6". Version 3.0 of the scripting language has also been available since early December in a final release version. The current stable release is 3.0.1, but this release cycle is incompatible with the 2.x development line.
