PyCon UK 2008 is fast approaching and the talks schedule points to a very interesting weekend in Birmingham for British Python developers. Python is having a quiet renaissance as developers taken it and incorporated it within many projects; Canonical, sponsors of Ubuntu Linux, for example, uses Python in the Bazaar version control system and their Launchpad project collaboration site.

The Friday is a tutorials day, with an Introduction to Python thread running alongside threads on developing with IronPython, ReportLabs or Google App Engine. In the afternoon, there's another set of tutorials on GUI programming, Django and systems programming.

On Saturday 13th, the conference starts running with four strands of talks running through the day, ranging from Python interpreter internals, embedding programming with Python, application testing and tools and web development with Python. The day ends with a keynote from Canonical founder, space tourist and Python programmer, Mark Shuttleworth and a conference dinner.

Sunday has an even more eclectic range of talks, including using Python with Facebook, the OpenMoko FreeRunner phone, Amazon Web Services and Google App Engine, and wraps up with a keynote from Ted Leung, from Sun Microsystems where he works on Python amongst many other things in the open source community.

Heise Open Source's editor will be attending and reporting on it as part of heise Open Source's Community Live coverage. If you want to meet up, send him an email.

Full details of how to attend PyCon 2008 UK are on the PyCon UK web site.
