Puppet Labs receives $8.5 million in funding from Google, Cisco and VMware
Puppet Labs, the company behind the open source Puppet configuration management tool, has announced that it has received $8.5 million in Series C funding from Cisco, Google Ventures and VMware. This additional financing brings the company's total to $15.75 million; Puppet Labs had previously received investments from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, True Ventures and Radar Partners.
In a blog post, Luke Kanies, founder and CEO of Puppet Labs, said, "We wanted partners with insights into the trends driving our industry, who understand our customers, and who get the unique nature of our approach to IT automation", adding that, "Given these goals, VMware, Google, and Cisco are an ideal fit, both for us and for our customers." Kanies notes that they decided to raise the venture capital as "organic growth" alone could not carry the company due to the increased market demand. The new funding will be used to invest in future development as well as marketing and sales.
The company announced Puppet Enterprise, the first commercial version of Puppet, in January of this year. Current Puppet Labs customers include Citrix, Match.com, Zynga, Disney, Oracle, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Stanford University.
