Document Foundation logo The LibreOffice developers and the Document Foundation have announced a public beta of the extension and template repositories for LibreOffice. The Document Foundation Steering Committee member Florian Effenberger explained that, "At the moment, there is no reliable and stable source for downloading these handy add-ons", and the new repositories would provide a solution. The extensions repository can be found on extensions-test.libreoffice.org and the template repository on templates-test.libreoffice.org.

The repositories themselves are based on Plone and allow users to search by keyword, category, LibreOffice version and sort on highest rating, most downloaded, newest or recently updated. The repositories will only accept software under free software licences and any listing in the repository will be reviewed by community volunteers, who will, if the software meets quality criteria, tag the software appropriately. Previous repositories run by the OpenOffice project allowed both proprietary software and free software to be listed and had little community input into the reviewing of the software. The LibreOffice repositories will, in future offer extensions and templates for OpenOffice and other compatible office suites when they appear.
