Pivot has become an Apache Top-Level Project

ApachePivot Logo Tendered to the Apache Software Foundation last year, the Pivot platform for developing Java-based Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) has become an Apache Top-Level Project (TLP). Although the foundation has only recently published a press release, this information has apparently been up on the project page for quite some time.

Pivot applications combine Java code with XML code and can be used both as applets and as stand-alone desktop applications. The platform is based on the Java2D library and the principles of a model-view-controller (MVC) architecture that separates a system's data storage from its presentation layer. Swing developers should, therefore, find Pivot easy to follow. Designed to compete with Adobe's Flex and Microsoft's Silverlight/Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), version 1.4 of Pivot has been available since the beginning of the year.
