Pinta: Paint.NET clone for Linux and Mac OS X

Pinta 0.1 supports multiple layers. Novell open source programmer Jonathan Pobst has developed Pinta, a simple painting application for Gtk modeled after Paint.NET. Pobst says that he got the idea for the Mono-based image editing application over his holiday break when he read a story that said that "there was a need for something like Paint.NET for Gtk". Pinta is intended to be a simpler alternative to GIMP.

Building on his previous experience porting Paint.NET and after just one month of development, Pobst released version 0.1 of Pinta. Pinta features a number of drawing tools, such as a pencil, paintbrush, selections and eraser, support for multiple layers and a full history, with unlimited levels of Undo/Redo. The developer notes that, due to infinite levels of Undo, Pinta memory usage will keep growing, however, future versions will mitigate the issue. Some adjustments and effects, such as invert, sepia, black and white and Auto level, are also included.

Pinta requires Mono and is available to download for Mac OS X, openSUSE and Ubuntu. Windows is also supported and requires Gtk# for Windows and Mono for Windows. Pinta 0.1 is available for download from the PInta web page and is released under the MIT X11 license.
