Pidgin IM client 2.5.0 released
Pidgin, the popular free software instant messaging client, has been updated to version 2.5.0, just over six months after 2.4.0 was released.
The update contains a number of new features including the ability for libpurple to create custom emoticons, though only MSN protocols use this feature. Also added are SSL certificate support in the NSS SSL plugin, MSN protocol 15 and MSN Offline IM support. Finch, the companion text console version of Pidgin, has also been updated with new "Invite" and "View All Logs" menu items along with tab completion for commands.
The full list of changes is available on the Pidgin Wiki and Pidgin 2.5.0 is available as a binary for Windows, Fedora Core and CentOS/RHEL and in source form at the Pidgin web site. Pidgin is licensed under GPL2.
