PiTiVi Logo Version 0.15 of the open source PiTiVi video editor for Linux has been released. According to developer Thibault Saunier, 0.15 will be the last release that uses the "traditional" core/engine; future releases will be based on the GStreamer Editing Services (GES) library, which will improve the application's performance and stability.

PiTiVi 0.15 brings faster startup time and includes a new transform feature that allows users to resize, pan or crop clips directly within the previewer. Soundtracks are now analysed to automatically align and sync clips when using footage from multiple cameras. For users without a permanent connection to the internet and the project's wiki, an integrated offline user manual has been added.

Other changes include improved performance when creating thumbnails and a new default set of project settings and rendering presets, and as well as code cleanups and the removal of dead code. The developers note that the preferences dialog has also been updated.

Further information about the new version, including a screencast covering the last two years' development, can be found in a blog post by Saunier and on the 0.15 wiki page. PiTiVi 0.15 is available to download from the project's site. PiTiVi is distributed under the LGPLv2.1 licence and documentation is provided.
