Phusion Passenger 4
Get comfortable with Phusion Passenger 4.0.1.
Source: Phusion
Phusion Passenger, the software that integrates into Apache and NGINX to allow these projects to serve as web application servers for Ruby and Python applications, has been updated to version 4.0.1, the first stable release of version 4.0. The new version brings many new features to the open source application server. In the first beta the developers added support for applications using multiple different Ruby versions, incorporated event driven I/O internally, added a zero copy architecture, and rebuilt the application spawning subsystem.

In October 2012's second beta, they added support for JRuby and Rubinus and since then have also added support for "Out-of-band" work (long-running jobs), implemented Rack socket hijacking, enhanced stability and testing, and added Ruby 2.0 support.

Phusion Passenger's open source edition can be installed using the "gem install passenger" command and then running "passenger-install-apache2-module" or "passenger-install-nginx-module" as appropriate. Source code for the MIT-licensed open source version is available to download from Google Code, though the code repository is on GitHub. Phusion Passenger Enterprise customers will find the rolling restart, mass-deployment-capable version of Passenger available in Phusion's customer area.
