PhoneGap logo The open source HTML5-based mobile application PhoneGap has been updated to version 1.3 and has gained full support for Microsoft's Windows Phone. The project, which is currently incubating at the Apache Software Foundation, will also be getting a new name; previously it was planned to change the name to Apache Callback, but, in a vote, it was decided that it will be called Apache Cordova. The new name will come into use with the release of version 1.4. PhoneGap was contributed to the Apache Software Foundation by Nitobi when it was acquired by Adobe.

The Windows Phone API support includes access to the accelerometer, camera, compass, contacts, files, location, networking, notifications, and storage of a Windows Phone device. Additional plugins add support for social networks including Facebook, LinkedIn, Windows Live and Twitter. Microsoft has worked with PhoneGap to offer Live Tile Update (for the system's dynamic tile UI) and Bing Maps Search as Windows Phone specific plugins. The Get Started Guide for developers now includes Windows Phone and offers guidance on how to set up PhoneGap and the Windows Phone SDK.

BlackBerry developers who use Mac OS X will now be able to use PhoneGap to develop applications, though they will only be able to deploy to an actual BlackBerry device as no BlackBerry simulator for Mac is available. Other changes include bug fixes and minor enhancements to the Android and iOS versions of PhoneGap. The full PhoneGap source code currently resides on the callback github repository and can be downloaded as a zip file from the PhoneGap site.
