Perl The Perl developers have released version 5.10.1 of their popular scripting language. The Perl 5.10.1 release has a number of changes rendering it incompatible with previous versions, including changes to smart matching and the switch statement.

Enhancements include an updated Unicode Character Database (UCD), some support for DTrace and the addition of Bzip2 compression to the core modules. The developers advise users upgrading from an earlier release, such as 5.8.8, to first read the perl5100delta.

More details about the release can be found in the perldelta (What is new for 5.10.1). Perl 5.10.1 is available to download from the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN). Perl is dual-licensed under the GPLv2 or the Artistic Licence.
