Parted Magic update brings fixes for multi-boot CD issues

The Parted Magic 2011_11_24 desktop A new version of Parted Magic, simply labelled "2011_11_24", has been released. According to the release announcement post on the project's News page, the update to the open source, multi-platform partitioning tool includes the 3.1.2 Linux kernel and brings "some major changes that might cause some issues with the Multi-Boot-CD crowd".

Lead developer Patrick J. Verner says that, for some time, pmagic-<version>.sqfs and Initramfs would not be found on supported systems. This was due to three issues that have now been fixed. Problems were caused by Windows-based zip programs not correctly converting file names and the mkisofs -J option not being used when creating the official ISO images. A long file name in /pmagic/initramfs also caused problems for users who would remaster the ISO image and not use the mkisofs -l option; that file has now been renamed to initrd.img.

The developer also notes that a major bug that caused the secure erase command to fail has also been addressed. This was caused by a "dummy file", now removed, that was mistakenly left in /usr/local/bin.
