Parted Magic 6.1 brings graphics updates

Less than one month after version 6.0 arrived, the Parted Magic developers have released the first point update to the 6.x branch of their open source, multi-platform partitioning tool. Parted Magic can be used to create, move, delete and resize drive partitions and will run on a machine with as little as 64MB of RAM. File systems supported include NTFS, FAT, ReiserFS, Reiser4 and HFS+. LVM and RAID are also supported.

The default Parted Magic 6.1 desktop. Based on the 2.6.38 Linux kernel, Parted Magic 6.1 features a new X.Org build and now uses the Nouveau X.Org driver for NVIDIA graphics chips by default. Problems with the Intel Mobile 4 Series Integrated Graphics Controllers that led to black screens have been fixed.

Package updates include the latest 4.0.1 release of the Firefox web browser, FUSE 2.8.5, version 4.04 of the Syslinux boot loader collection and X.Org Server 1.9.5, including "all compatible drivers and libraries". After downgrading Nwipe to version 0.03 in the previous release, the tool for securely erasing disks has been updated to 0.05, the latest stable version. The developers also note that "A mess of other minor issues were addressed."
