Parted Magic 4.5 released

Parted Magic developer Patrick Verner has announced the release of version 4.5 of the open source Parted Magic, multi-platform partitioning tool. Parted Magic can be used to create, move, delete and resize drive partitions and will run on a machine with as little as 64MB of RAM. The latest 4.5 release is based on the 2.6.30.6 Linux kernel and includes a number of bug fixes, updates, performance improvements and new features.

The developer has added a new PPPoE option to the "Start Network" program and reduced the amount of memory required to run using the Default settings, which runs Parted Magic completely from RAM, from 256MB in version 4.4 to 192MB. To prevent problems associated with newer versions of X.org and Intel chipsets, new command line entries for alternative Intel drivers have been added to let users switch Intel driver versions. Clonezilla, an open source clone system (OCS) with features similar to Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition, has been updated to version 2.3.3. Additional updates to the provided tools and applications include Firefox 3.5.3, BusyBox 1.14.3, GParted 0.4.6 and TrueCrypt 6.2a. The developer notes that pmagic.sqfs now includes a version number (e.g. pmagic-4.5.sqfs) to prevent the loading of older files from previously installed versions.

Parted Magic is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
