Version 4.0 of Parted Magic has been released and includes several new features and updates. Parted Magic can be used to create, move, delete and resize drive partitions and will run on a machine with as little as 64MB of RAM. File systems supported include NTFS, FAT, ReiserFS, Reiser4 and HFS+. LVM and RAID are also supported.

The 4.0 release now includes full support for partitioning Device Mapper RAID partitions. The initrd temporary file system has been dropped and Parted Magic now boots from an initramfs of approximately 500KB in size. The Low RAM option, for systems with as little as 64MB of RAM, now boots with Xvesa, TWM and GParted at a resolution of 800x600. CD version users can now save sessions when using a CD-RW. Updates to the release include GParted version 0.4.4, Firefox 3.0.8 and GTK+ 2.16.0. TrueCrypt, a free open source disk encryption tool, version 6.1a and multipath-tools 0.4.8 have also been added.

More details about the release can be found in the change log. Parted Magic 4.0 is available to download and can be run as a LiveCD or LiveUSB.

When version 3.7 was released, the developer was seeking donations due to a failed motherboard. Since the initial request, the developer raised almost $1,200 and was able to purchase a new development system that can now compile four times faster.
