Pardus Logo The Pardus development team has released version 2009.2 of the Pardus Linux operating system, the second update to the Pardus 2009 family. Pardus is a Turkish distribution sponsored by The National Research Institute of Electronics and Cryptology (UEKAE) and includes several unique features: PiSi (Packages Installed Successfully, as Intended), an efficient and small package management system for installing and managing software implemented using Python, and COMAR, a COnfiguration MAnageR that includes the Mudar init system for Pardus.

The second update to the 2009 branch of Pardus is based on the 2.6.31.13 Linux kernel and features the latest version 4.4.4 release of the KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC). According to Pardus developer Onur Küçük, the release includes advanced driver support and improvements to PiSi and the Package Manager, allowing them to run much faster and adding support for grouping packages to update. Updated packages include version 3.2.1 of the OpenOffice.org office suite, Firefox 3.6.3, Thunderbird 3.0.4 and the 2.6.8 release of GIMP. Other changes include updates to the built-in themes, Qt 4.6.2 and Python 2.6.5.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes. Pardus Linux 2009.2 is available to download as a Hybrid ISO image file and an installation guide is provided. Users running the previous 2009 and 2009.1 releases of Pardus should automatically receive the 2009.2 update later today. Pardus is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
