Palm Pre 1.0.4 update fixes security issues
Palm has released version 1.0.4 of its Pre mobile phone software to address several security issues in its open source Palm webOS. However, details of the security vulnerabilities patched in the update, have not been released, although Palm does thank Townsend Ladd Harris for identifying some of the issues.
According to Engadget, Harris is also a Palm Pre homebrewer and the update reportedly plugs the hole used to allow homebrew applications to be installed on the phone via a link in an email, without a jailbreak override of the software lock down.
More information on how the Palm webOS system updates work, including background updating and manual updates, can be found on Palm's support solutions site.
