Palantir open source logo Information analysis company Palantir has released two Java projects, an MVC library and a platform monitoring tool, as Apache licensed open source. Cinch is a library designed to simplify developing MVC Swing applications by using Java annotations such as @Bindable, @Bound, @Action and @EnabledIf to wire up the models, views and controllers. The annotations take the place of the more common pattern of anonymous listener objects associated with elements of the user interface. The company says it uses Cinch heavily in its Palantir Government product.

The other project, Sysmon, is a lightweight monitoring tool for gathering CPU, disk and network performance data from systems. The application, which is currently only able to monitor Linux platforms, gathers the statistical information and packages it with JMX (Java Management Extentsions) where it can be accessed by other tools including jconsole. The software was originally built as part of its Monitoring Server product.

Palantir, the company, is probably more known for its connection with HBGary (a connection it says it later severed), than for its various data visualisation and analysis systems which it supplies to governments and financial institutions.
