PC/OS Developer Roberto J. Dohnert has announced the release of PC/OS 10 Open64 Workstation. The desktop distribution designed for 64-bit systems is based on Ubuntu 9.04 and includes all of the latest security and bug patches up to the 25th of May. All of the PC/OS editions, including OpenDesktop, OpenWorkstation and WebStation, utilise the lightweight Xfce desktop environment and focus on providing ease of use out-of-the-box.

The Open64 Workstation release includes version 4.6 of the Xfce desktop environment, version 4 of Qt, MonoDevelop and the Flash 64-bit plug-in. OpenOffice 3.1 is also included, along with the VLC Media Player and the Exaile music manager and player. According to the announcement, the release includes several additional multimedia and development tools, libraries and "all multimedia codecs", however, more exact details are not provided.

PC/OS 10 Open64 Workstation edition is available to download (direct download) as a 1.68 GB ISO file. Users interested in supporting the project are urged to consider making a donation or purchasing the release from on-disk.com for $49.99. Testing is currently taking place on the upcoming Open64 Server and Core editions, which are both expected to be released later this month.
