PC-BSD 8.0 "Hubble Edition" arrives

PC-BSD Logo The PC-BSD developers have announced the availability of version 8.0, the "Hubble Eidtion", of their open source operating system. According to the developers, the latest major release of the FreeBSD variant for desktops includes a number improvements, updates and enhancements over the previous 7.x series.

PC-BSD 8.0 is based on FreeBSD 8.0 and features version 4.3.5 of the KDE desktop environment (the latest release is KDE SC 4.4) and a new System Installer that allows users to install PC-BSD or FreeBSD. Optional components include Firefox 3.5.7, Gimp 2.6.8, OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 and VLC 1.0.4. Other changes include an updated Software Manager and support for 3D acceleration on AMD64 systems using NVIDIA drivers. The developers advise all users to upgrade to the latest release.
