PC-BSD 7.0 adds ZFS and KDE 4.1.1

A new version of PC-BSD, a free Unix derivative designed for desktop use, is now available to download. This release is based on FreeBSD 7 production release and in order to make the relationship between FreeBSD and PC-BSD clearer, the developers have synchronised the PC-BSD version number with FreeBSD. This means the version number jumps from 1.5 to 7.0.: the distribution jumps from PC-BSD 1.5 to PC-BSD 7.0. Among PC-BSD 7.0's updates are improved hardware support with updated drivers, and a refreshed range of packaged software. The release notes and the changelog give detailed information about the changes.

PC-BSD 7.0 uses the current version of KDE, 4.1.1 as its standard desktop environment and the developers have ported the PBI packet management system to Qt 4. PC-BSD 7.0 adds support for Sun's ZFS, as well as the UFS2, UFS2+Journaling and UFS2+Soft Updates, the latter being the default filing system. The new release can be installed from CD, DVD, from USB flash media or over a local network or the internet.
