.NET Bio (formerly the Microsoft Biology Foundation), a collection of biometric tools for the .NET framework, has been contributed by Microsoft to be included in the Outercurve Foundation's gallery of Research Accelerators. The gallery hosts projects that support the work of academic researchers and scientists and is sponsored by Microsoft Research.

The open source project adds a number of parsers to the .NET framework for file formats used in biometrics, algorithms to process various protein sequences, and interfaces to web services such as NCBI BLAST. All of the project's resources are available for downloading from the Codeplex project hosting site under the Apache 2.0 licence.

The Outercurve Foundation is the name of what was the CodePlex Foundation. It was renamed last year to avoid confusion with Microsoft's Codeplex.com project hosting site but its aims remain the same; promoting the use of and the creation of open source projects in the commercial world.
